READING Test 2
Reading, that is, reading, is one of the most important skills when learning English. Reading means trying to understand written words and sentences by seeing them. For students learning English at the primary school level, the reading skill is very important in terms of recognizing and understanding the language.
When children learn a new language, they first see the words and then learn their meanings. Through reading, students both learn new words and see how these words are used in sentences. This helps them learn English more easily.
Thanks to the reading skill, students:
Learn new words
Recognize the spelling of words
Understand sentences more easily
Improve their reading comprehension skills
For example, when a student reads the word “cat,” they learn that it means “kedi.” Later, when they see the sentence “The cat is sleeping.”, they can understand how this word is used in a sentence. In this way, learning becomes more permanent.
How to Improve Reading?
At the primary school level, reading activities should be fun and simple. Here are some easy methods:
- Reading short and simple texts
At the beginning, short and easy sentences should be preferred instead of long and difficult texts. This increases the student’s motivation. - Using picture books
Picture storybooks are very useful for improving reading skills. Pictures make it easier to understand the text. - Reading aloud
Reading aloud helps to learn the correct pronunciation of words. It also increases reading speed. - Repetition
Reading the same text several times helps words to be learned better. - Learning with games
Games such as word matching and finding the correct picture improve reading skills.
What Should Be Considered While Reading?
First, look at the title and guess what the text is about
Continue reading even if there are words you don’t know
Do not try to translate every word
Try to understand the general meaning of the sentence

You can use English flashcards
